SkyController 2 battery problem

Post by CoyoteJack » 04 Mar 2019, 01:34

I have been testing my Bebop 2 around the house just to get used to it. One thing I noticed was I could not get the controller battery to charge any more than 48% and it would drain very quickly when I used it. It would also discharge if the battery sat for a couple of days. I did some reading and found that this is a common problem with the SkyController 2 that has the round battery. I started experimenting with different ways to charge the battery and I think I have had some success. What ended up working is I charged the battery to it's usual 48% and then used it just long enough to drain it down to 40 or 41%. I then put it back on charge and it charged to 98%. Even after hooking it up to my phone and letting it sit with FreeFlight Pro running and me playing with the settings it still only dropped to 95% after 10 minutes. I have to stress that all of these tests are being run with the phone fully charged so as to not have the phone draining the SkyController 2 battery. The next big test is to try flying it again and seeing what happens. I don't know if I am on to something or just lucked out so far.

Good luck Jack, hope all works out with what you’re doing.

I have a couple of Sky controllers with the same cylinder type battery, eventually replaced battery with a couple of rechargeable Lipo batteries mounted Parallel and charge these replacement batteries with another charger. This solved my issue with this controller, can go for hours now.

Keep us posted, wishing you all the best.

I checked the battery again last night. even flew for a couple of minutes and the battery is holding the charge. It has now dropped to 91% but that is expected with use in this very cold weather. -10C when I flew. I also tried a new to me reconditioned Parrot (2700) battery and it checked out good as well. Things are going well for now.

Very good looking mod. I may try this if my battery doesn't hold up.

Hello Jack,

Hopefully your cylinder battery holds out, and continues to hold its charge. If the cylinder battery eventually stops working for you, you can use the connector off the cylinder battery to use with the modified replacement battery pack.

Think I made a couple of these packs for under 20 bucks, this included the rechargeable batteries with chargers. Picked this off the internet, someone out there has a video on this battery mod for the SC2P controller. He also makes and sells the battery mod kit, need two Lipo batteries Parallel through one doesn’t last as long.

Plus, my controller has the booster mod which draws down the battery a little quicker. But with two Lipo batteries Parallel gets long usage, plenty of flights before recharging.

Here’s a picture of my SC2P with the booster mods, enhances reception up too 2.1 Miles. Solaris makes the amplifier booster mod kit, he may have stopped making these. Some cool mods out there for bebop 2, we’re very fortunate people out there took the time and expense to show us a better way to enjoy bebop 2.

Take care,
Paul
