Now Available, Sports Cross Kit from i-Drone

Post by blorincz » 29 Oct 2013, 03:40

Thanks to our partner I-Drone, we now have the Sports Cross Kits available.

This kit is designed to replace the central cross and has been manufactured with attention to detail. It provides an exact fit replacement and comes with a set of pre-fitted NSK High Performance Bearings. Weighing in at 20g lighter than the stock cross.

I got mine (purchased from I-Drone) fitted onto a new hull, ultrasound sensor, motors, gears, shafts, and props tonight... The only thing that that isn't new is the main board. I'll put up a brief video shortly... made for a great Monday night.

One of the machine screws for the motor mounts was stripped -- i found a replacement, and one of the lower bearing was originally seated crooked inside its holder. i had to use a shaft to tweak it into place.

Beyond that it was really nice to assemble and I love the new look.

*want*... but.. not for $80 US.... I'd buy if half that.. I could buy 3 stock cross'es for that.. I cannot believe it is *that* much stronger.. so I'll wait until I hear someone's story about how they did break one..

For me it is all in the bling... I'm really surprised it's taken this long for a vendor to produce real bling for the drone... now if only we could get some colored anodizing :)

Sweet!!

I'm wondering if the new aluminum centre cross will transmit less vibration into the body of the drone equating to less potential video jello. I dont have much in the way of a jello issue currently so improvements may not be not be noticeable. On the other hand more jello would definitely be noticeable. I has been established that jello can be caused by prop issues so I'll take and balance/straighten a new set of props to use for a test video before and after.

I'm stupid busy at the moment but if I have time I'll post pictures of the install and my thoughts after the first couple of flights. Taking pictures during an install always makes it feel like the install is taking forever. I'm also going to install an onboard signal booster very soon so I may do both installs at the same time. This would mean no install pictures. just giddy post install pictures.

I am actually excited. Anything that makes the drone actually stronger AND lighter is a great thing.

When you have a decent drop from 10 meters and snap the stock cross and slam that broken plastic hub into the top of the main board and nav board and it costs you 150 bucks in repairs.... this seems like a good investment.

Just ordered... and I'm anxious to get my hands on this baby

Thanks for bringing this across the pond for us Bob... I been waiting a long while for this one

Yours will probably show up before mine. Damned cross border shipping.

Actually I ordered mine 2 or 3 days ago, I may see it at the same time as you get yours. My tracking info finally shows it in route.
