Looking for AR.Pro external controller support?

Post by ShellDude » 05 Oct 2013, 20:36

As of version 2.0.12.5 AR.Pro provides for (limited) Gamepad support. All functionality is currently in place for a standard PS3 controller with the following details:
gamepad_layout.png
  • * Only available for Jellybean (4.1) and greater devices
    * Defaults to traditional RC Mode 2 style
    * Use Swap Sensor/Stick Controls in Input Preferences to implement Mode 1
    * Use Pad/Joy Dead Zone settings to adjust joystick deadzone values
    * Left/Right Triggers hardcoded to yaw axis
    * Buttons are user configurable (defaults listed below)
Here are the underlying Android joystick/key mappings if you use a tool that allows you to remap your controller (assumes you're using something other than a PS3 controller and they don't match up or you want to change them).

Joystick:
  • AXIS_X
  • AXIS_Y
  • AXIS_Z
  • AXIS_RZ
  • AXIS_LTRIGGER
  • AXIS_RTRIGGER
Key codes:
  • Hat Up = Emergency
  • Hat Down = unassigned
  • Hat Left = Flat Trim
  • Hat Right = Calibrate Magneto
  • Select = Preferences
  • Start = Takeoff/land
  • Square/1 = Snapshot
  • X/2 = Switch View
  • O/3 = Toggle Record
  • Triangle/4 = Maneuver
  • Trigger Left (Top) = Toggle Map View
  • Trigger Right (Top) = Toggle Detection/Tracking
In the future I will likely be expanding upon these options.

One final note -- I can't recommend the GameKlip enough (see next post). It is an awesome addition to your tablet/phone.

Please direct requests for additional controller support here and I will do my best to source the requested controller for inclusion into the AR.Pro External Controller Roadmap.
Is AR.Pro compatible with RC mods? Never used it, so maybe it already is, but if not I believe that would be useful.

I have to reach way back for that one. Back in the day I played with the original ardruino rc mod with my v1 drone. I recall preserving the video and navdata streams but so much has changed since then I really can't speak to current state.

Point me to a current rc controller mod and I'll look into it.

I'm assuming if I can crack OTG with the PS3 controller that the Logitech one will just work

I think that would be a safe assumption -- I cannot imagine going back to touch screen controls, lol.. it took me only 2 weeks to move on from that way back in May (and on from the stock app as well)

I've always enjoyed the accelerometer controls. I flew with an rc controller briefly (have been flying planks and ehelis for quite some time) and liked it.

I would really like for my Nvidia Shield to work with the AR Pro. app, tried after the latest update but had no luck so I use the Freeflight app. when I want to use the controller. The Nvidia shield is just like the Xbox 360 controller, maybe some one could crack it.

Hi, I saw some posts regarding the Nvidia Shield. I was wondering if this was supported,

Thanks,
Frank
