Alternative to HDpro camera?

Post by kbanes » 08 May 2012, 04:50

Has anyone had any experience with the Veho VCC-005-MUVI-HD10?

It is 1080p, and 720p at 60 fps. 3x zoom.
Weighs in at 81 grams. H 80mm x W 47mm x D 19mm

I find the 60 fps very appealing.

And, it is $149 on Amazon.com

I have high hopes for the new 808#18 1080p keychain cam I have ordered. It has 30 fps, a removable battery and detachable camera. I have a small wide angle lens that I hope I can modify to it.
I will report when I get it and fly some tests.

i am keen to hear about the #18 808 sounds like it could be good my #16 is great so light and tiny. i have also thought about the driftHD camera but it weighs in at 119grams.

also mounting the drift i think would be very easy with its rotatable head.

I got my 808#18 1280 x 720p 30 fps keychain cam and have done some testing.
Will try to post some results when i can cut some junk footage out of the video.
First impressions: Great picture and sound recording just driving around like a dash cam;
My MacGiver mod is sent away for upgrading to fail safe, so I was using iPhone for control, so didn't go really high.
My first flight with the cam on top of the battery had a LOT of disappointing jello effect.
Second flight, I mounted it on a landing gear foot hoping to get away from vibration - still too much Jello...
Third flight, I mounted it under the drone (AR1) at the rear of the bottom plate. PERFECT! no jello!
The video I will post shows pretty nice results but for some reason becomes blurry for a short time when I am descending from about 100' high. Close up detail is amazing.
The #18 also has video out and the cables, but I haven't hooked it to the TV yet. Also has the date stamp removed!
If I can figure out a small enough wide angle lens, I think it will be perfect considering weight and cost.

See how I mounted for jello free video

Here is the first good video from the new 808#18 key chain cam. AR1 and iphone 4 with Drone Control.
The jello effect was still a problem on my first tries, but on this flight I mounted the camera under the drone with foam between the base plate and the cam, and it seemed to eliminate the effect. See the previous post for more info and mounting details.
Most impressive is the close-up detail. I think the AR could be used for aerial inspections of anything we normally have to climb.
The original footage is a lot better than the compressed youtube. I'll have to learn how to process and post the high res videos.

Nice work.

Here is some video of my #16 up and running.

http://www.youtube.com/user/RichardJBrownAU

I have balanced my blades and will replace my bent shafts this week. Have bearings in now. and hopefully the last vibrations will go with nice straight shafts. I still think i need a better camera mount. something like what you have done with some soft foam to minimise the last of the vibrations. Currently i am just taping the 808 #16 onto the top of the drone right up the front just where the top hull separates. It sits there very well. but i feel the vibrations will always create the jello effect there.

You videos are fine (and a very nice place with all the good farmland). I don't see much jello effect on them.
I am learning that when using the foam, a thin piece seems to do better than thick.

@ Deanes

Thanks, I will be uploading another video in a day or so, (i want to put some music to it sick of showing people with the noise of the motors) But The boys where out cutting the soy beans on one of our fields so i tool the drone out to watch. some cool shots. i did however loose control of it at one stage the the harvester coming right at it. Lucky i sent it skyward and recovered it quickly. Cane season starts in a month so will get some cool footage with the cane been cut. I also found a alternative to the GoPro called the Wingman HD it looks pretty good as well.
