Yeah, I'd be interested to see some video straight out of the camera myself, actually. Wonder if there's any frame skipping -- that's pretty common with the cheap cams. Looks like they make a couple of other models that might be more conducive to bottom-mounting, and probably smaller / lighter too. They're sadly all CMOS, so still going to be very prone to rolling shutter, but still:

Optical illusion I guess, you're right that next to the battery it doesn't look so big...

Real Low Light!!!

most of this Video is Recorded in low Light just using mostly the LEDs on the Camera for light.
Maybe most of the cause for the tiling and pixley effect.

The video frame rate is really bad, extremely choppy although the actual image quality seems pretty good. The Drone sure doesn't seem very stable though.

Yeah it doesn't look great, but then we're seeing it through YouTube. Care to upload a short clip at the maximum quality settings where we can download the file directly, rather than through YouTube? I'd like to see what the real framerate is...

I'll look in to it. I did see that YouTubes video is only 720p
The one on my computer is 1080p

A.R. Drone built in camera video:

http://youtu.be/PwI-50uian0" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

Ad-on HD 1080p Dash camera video:

http://youtu.be/inUAaIpQQiw?hd=1" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

In my opinion the ad-on dash camera is an major improvement in video quality compared to the drones built in video camera . It may not surpass the go Pro camera in video clarity or quality. But this is the closest camera in my opinion that can give the go pro camera a run for it's money. And with the dash camera just waiting in a little under 78g. The go Pro camera weighing in about 98g. That roughly translates into a 20g difference in weight. Which can be a major factor in maintaining flight with the A.R drone.

of course, every camera is better than 320x240 ;) but is it better than a regular 808#11 keyfob cam?
$36/17g makes it very drone-friendly, so this should be a "standard" competitor for comparisons, and not the built-in cam.

FRAPS, as far as I know, is only testing the frame rate rendered by your video card. A lot of cheap Chinese cameras skip frames, but appear to have a normal frame rate. They do this by repeating the same frame more than once. The only way to tell is to use a video player that can step through one frame at a time, and count the number of unique frames in a one second period on average.
