Mirumod Range Video Stream

Post by ashd62 » 09 Nov 2017, 15:46

This is a mirumod question. The forums are dead and you seem like a knowledgeable person.
Can one see from the drone camera while the drone is flying?
Because what's the use of greater range if you can't see where the drone is going.

Hello and welcome,

it's true the range of the mirumod is way beyond the range of the wifi (and the video stream). The miromod is not able to transmit video. If you are looking for some a long range with video stream, please have a look at the router mod for the AR.Drone.

The user solaris8x86 has some great experience in this kind of modding, I highly recommend checking his threads.

Sweet and delicious apps for your drones.

Agreed Get yourself a range extender. The mirumod is the way to go with the AR 2.0.
If you get a WA830RE Tplink as I did you can follow along setup here.
The same settings apply to other routers.

I have one with better 8dbi antennas Tplink model TL-ANT2408CL.
Powering the router on a tripod with a 3 cell 5000mah battery.

I'm flying with a mirumod on a DX6i with a tablet holder and a Sony Experia Z3 Tablet Compact. The video is very good over the router but you do loose ability to monitor the battery level. I use a timer velcro to the back of the TX to time the drone's 2500mah battery.
Fligh time 15 minutes.

It works

You can still fly out of visual range because the mirumod allows it but I prefer to keep the drone in VLOS range.

The mirumod ultra mini does transmit video over wireless to Ar Drone app or Ar Pro for Android to connect to if you center the transmitter throttle stick on drone boot up. It enables wireless Android to connect to and the router. Works great some lag but does let you see what the drone sees.
VLOS is the NAV Canada reg. They fine you big time if caught. Too many people doing dumb things with drones. Few near misses with manned aircraft. Just a matter of time before a collision or bad crash happens. I'd rather not go there. I fly inside the rules and enjoy organized club fields as a member or guest.
