Mobile sensing station using Drone 2.0

Post by migueel » 04 Jul 2014, 23:03

Hello everyone,

I'm doing a project that uses an arduino board with sensors connected with a GSM module to transmit the info remotely.

I bought the AR Drone 2.0 + flight recorder to be able to have a mobile station that follows a predetermined path, and I was wondering:

Is it possible to access the GPS location in real time using the GPS recorder and transmit it to the arduino via serial or another type of connection?

The GPS just sends it's output to a regular USB serial adaptor, so you can of course just redirect it over the drone's physical serial port (or process it in some way on the drone first). When being used by the drone, it outputs SiRF binary format.

The drone robots and base station use custom-written software which allows wireless intercommunication and control between them via radios.

Is there some tutorial to retrieve that type of data that you can advice to me?

I'm sorry to bother, but I'm quite a newbie with AR Drone 2.0. How can I do such redirection? Should I do something like this: https://gist.github.com/maxogden/4152815 ?

But how do I redirect the GPS data to the physical port? What type of data comes out from it, and where is that documented?
