3rd Party batteries 2017

Post by sambat » 31 Oct 2017, 10:07

I know there have been previous posts about batteries before, but they seem out of date now, so, here is a new one.
What batteries are people using now for the AR 2.0?
Any one found any good "standard fit" batteries that still use the original charger from a 3rd party?
Have you switched to non-standard Lipos with a different charger, if so what batteries are you using, and what charger to charge them?

Although the AR 2.0 is getting a bit old now, its still a good drone, and can be modded more than most out the box drones. I suppose you have to weigh up how much to spend on batteries if the drone is only worth £50/60 now...

Hello and welcome,

in 2017 it's still the best way to change the plug to xt60 and get some of the Nano Tech 3S batteries from 1000mAh to 1500mAh like https://hobbyking.com/de_de/turnigy-nan ... -pack.html or https://hobbyking.com/de_de/turnigy-nan ... -pack.html

The white plug on the AR.Drone is not needed, I used this to plug in the LED on the bottom.

I wrote an article on https://www.drone-forum.de/2013/06/30/z ... -ar-drone/ (unfortunately in German, but have a look at the pictures)

Personally I'm using ISDT D2 charger most of the time, but this may a bit overpriced for only charging AR.Drone batteries. (Its > 100$)

You could use any lipo charger like the very popular IMAX B6 charger (around 25$) or even the old AR.Drone 1 charger is compatible with the above Nano Tech batteries.

Thanks for the reply, yes your charger is a bit on the expensive side. I was considering the Imax B6 charger, but there are so many Chinese fakes its not something I want connected to Lipo batteries considering the effect on them when they are incorrectly charged.

XT60 is good and capable to handle 60A current. But all parrot drones do not need a XT60 to handle its current. A XT30 plug is enough (30A current). Even on Bebop 2. And XT30 is much smaller.
