Now available, Stainless Steel Shaft Set w/ Circlips

Post by blorincz » 27 Feb 2013, 17:10

Thanks to Neil from i-Drone, I am finally able to offer customers replacement shafts for the AR.Drone 1.0 and 2.0. A lot of people have asked me for these.

Same design and dimensions as the stock shafts, but stronger and more resilient to bending. Made out of a hardened stainless steel.

Set of (4) shafts with (4) circlips.

Price: $13.99

Cheaper than buying a Parrot set of gears just for the shafts (I've never once broken a gear, despite 5 or more ~ 100 foot falls), since the original shafts are easily bent. We'll see how these hold up. I was initially concerned that if these are stronger, doesn't that just mean the force will transfer into damaging the bearings more? Then I realized that for the price, you could get a spare set of bearings and just replace those if you really damage one corner (broken prop or bent shaft letting you know it happened) and then you'd be much cheaper than going through Parrot gear sets even if they were bending and preventing bearing damage. Titanium shafts plus spare bearings makes good sense money-wise, and performance wise (harder to damage, and replacing bearings routinely would keep you from unknowingly using damaged ones).
