Night Flight

Post by g00bd0g » 04 Nov 2010, 07:41

I rigged some nice bright LEDs on my AR.Drone for night flying. It works great! Makes for a very cool "ground effect", plus it helps the downward facing cam lock on for stabilization.

12 Zip-Ties
JST-XH connector: http://www.hobbyking.com/hobbyking/stor ... oduct=9736" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
4 LED's from here: http://besthongkong.com/index.php?cPath=21_71" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

No gluing, cutting holes or other permanent changes to your AR.Drone. 10 minutes with a soldering iron and Zip-Ties and you are done. No muss, no fuss.

It's a flying 'simon says' toy! Lol

Looks great though! Could you like a controller to make the LEDs rotate?

The beauty of an LED is it is a Light Emitting Diode. Diode's only pass electrical current one way. So just plug it in, and if doesn't work, flip it around.

If you plug your LEDs to the LEDs on 4 motors, you can make an app on iPhone to do LED animations using AT commands AT*LED:

Code: Select all

Corresponding API function : ardrone_at_set_led_animation
Syntax : AT*LED=%d,%d,%d,%d<LF>
Argument 1 : the sequence number
Argument 2 : integer - animation to play
Argument 3 : frequence in Hz of the animation
Argument 4 : integer - total duration in seconds of the animation (animation is
played (durationfrequence times)
Description :
This command makes the four motors leds blink with a predetermined sequence.

Hi awesome mod, thanks so much for sharing. Sorry to sound stupid, but when I go to the page http://besthongkong.com/index.php?cPath=21_71" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; ... there are a bunch of lights on that page with different cms (lengths) ...

is this what you got: http://besthongkong.com/product_info.ph ... cts_id=463" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

confused if the lights come in a kit with all four/five colors, or if I have to buy each one separately.

Thanks for the help!

- Rocco
