Booster? this is the first you mentioned a booster.

ok.. thanks.

One other... can you point me to "the booster" ?

Here's the one (that's no longer available):

Another type:

That's another I found here that is 4x more powerful but no doubt also draws 4x the current and generates 4x the heat. The specs indicate it will accept the Drone's lipo voltage (vs. the other where you need to get to 6vdc. Apart from power/heat issues, it also is likely shielded by the heavy aluminum frame, otherwise you could desolder it from its enclosure and relocate to the Drone. But I dunno how you'd shield it, and assume it would wreak havoc on the Drone's innards:

download/file.php?id=1666

Apart from shielding and that it would exhaust your battery immediately, if not start your Drone on fire, it otherwise looks perfect to me!

I actually own that 2W beast :D I took it appart, shielded it with alu foil, installed it into my drone and its radiation destroyed the drone's mobo :lol:

Image

it lives unshielded in my ultra short range extender :lol: with ultra short range build in antenna 8-)

works like a dream :D
100 meter range with the crappy build in antenna's of that netgear extender is possible, i'm not taking it further but i'm sure it wasn't on the limit yet (video quality was still perfect!)

the heat of it is okay, some small cooling fins did the trick for me ;) current draw..... my lipo only lasts for 1 hour

lrn2rd

1Amp @ 1 hour = 1000mAh = drone lipo => powering my ultra short range extender => only lasts 1 hour => pulling 1 Amp

I did mention that I wasn't going to take it furher then 100m

I didn't mention my drone still has the stock antenna, no booster, the 2W amp is only used to boost the receive signal in my ultra short range extender.
And why did I use 2W?!? => I don't have anything else and I don't have unlimited funds

Glad you thought that was funny! :o

Are you CERTAIN it was "radiation", or is it possible, either by your soldering, or the alu foil, that you had a short-circuit somewhere?

We need somebody to build a drone that kick's the OP's obnoxious butt. I vote for You! :mrgreen:

I didn't laugh when it happened in the beginning but now it's sorted out ;)

it took 2 hours untill the mobo died tho (i was bored and was waiting for replacement parts so in the meantime I installed that booster)

I didn't fly in those 2 hours, the drone was just sitting there powered up and I was doing some signal testing, the booster had a grounded layer of alu foil and on top of that a layer of electrical tape ;)

i'm about 80% sure that the radiation caused it

Yeah, as you've described it, I would have to agree. :(

BTW:

stealthmatt wrote:So your not really helping any one here but instead to simply brag? I guess you didnt even make those aerials or mod your drone - you probably bought it like it is.

All the details are here somewhere; now that I think of it, it was possibly you 3nslav3 that posted links to those older threads.

It's fascinating stuff, but trust me stealthmatt the OP is not the genius he believes himself to be. Braggert, yes, genius, no. :twisted:

What is a "gap" ?

1) Router/AP Mod (ultra long range)
2) Repeater Mod (ultra short range)

Mods to Routers and Repeaters. please clarify.

This is boring. I have been explaining a couple times. All right. One more times here.

Dead end.

Your written english is not fully formed and your choice of words make it a bit challenging decoding your intent.

I'd like to ask: where are you located and your primary language ?

LOL !!!

Ok.. at least I know to be more tolerent.

========================

The Range Extender I use is rated at 600mw and I have no problem flying out to 300+ meters where WiFi interference is low.
True, a range Extender stores and forwards packets but it does not affect the navigation downlink rate and control uplink rate of the UDP packets.

Ok.. this is a joke I heard when I was a little kid .. so no offense.. ok ?

Say this using your fingers to push your eye brows both up then both down; then finally one brow up and one brow down.

"My mommy was Chinese and my daddy was a Jap... and I am a mixed up kid."

===============================

Now back to business... you said earlier that a repeater did only 150 meters.

300 meters is a very good distance to fly the AR Drone since it takes a while to fly that far and back. There is not much battery time left to perform your mission at that distance.

Yes.. I would like to try to fly 600 meter missions. i will keep an eye out first for battery technology that the AR Drone can carry.

solaris8x86 wrote:I think you are still sticking to the factory 1000mAh battery. Aren't you? The battery we have is 2000mAh battery which could last for 18 mins for an unmodifed AR Drone.

I am using aftermarket 1300mAh batterys.
I just purchased some 1300mAh nano-technology batterys but waiting on XT60 adapters. We will see of they actually charge faster.

What is the weight and dimensions of your 2000mAh battery ?

Perhaps a Dual Band Repeater would help with video downlink issues while at distance. That is, if my Android device can operate on the other band.

Perhaps this winter I will start tooling up for 600 meter flight capability.
