USB on the base of the AR Drone

Post by Symon » 25 Aug 2010, 00:13

Does anyone know the spec for the USB connector on the bottom of the AR Drone?
When I say spec I mean, hardware control, if so can you please enlighten me.

It looks like a usb port on a motherboard which is connected to the front or rear pannel by a lead. I guess you can buy them, but you would probably need to get the SDK at the very least to do much with it.

Symon

Did you find out any detail on the Connection and SDK?

I think its linux based but I havent had a massive amount of time to look into it.

I think this area interests me the most - the possibilties of self autonomy are extremly excitnig!!

Will do some digging and feed back anything I find.

Yup, it's a Linux based OS running on a 468Mhz ARM CPU with 128Mb of RAM running at 200Mhz.

It's also open to modifying as you can FTP to the Drone.

Which makes it a flying USB key.

The "USB" port also comes with a serial port (TTL level):
Pin 4: RX
Pin 6: TX
Pin 7: Ground

Also:
Pin 1: VBUS +5V (enabled after module dwc_otg.ko loaded)
Pin 2: +12V power

I attached a GPS to this serial port, and received GPS NMEA data from /dev/ttyPA0:

Does it work? If so, how did you do it?
It looks like to be a great mod!
