Drone control not so good?

Post by denodan » 18 Jan 2011, 11:11

I downloaded Drone control, like the extra features, but needs fixing. Seems your high varies unlike Free Flight remains around the same, so no where as steady as Free Flight.

Tried Free Flight again, maintains a steady height and more stable, don't know if I like Drone Control now, a little unsteady for my liking.

Hello Denodan,

did you do the tests on the same underground and the same position? While hovering the altitude is controlled by the firmware of the AR.Drone not by the app.

Sure did and both apps had different results. Free Flight is slightly more stable, height varied slightly more with Drone Control, than Free flight. Repeated it 3 times and still followed the same pattern. Outside maybe give different results.

The test is repeatable every time.

Are you noticing varying height while you have your thumb on the control? If so this is probably from the smaller thumb control in Drone Control vs the larger one in the new Free Flight app. I noticed that the height does vary more but that is because the control surface is smaller and my huge thumb causes the control to act this way. In the newer Free Flight where they increased the size of the thumb stick it's better since my big thumb has more room.

That could be the cause. The flight stick is a bit small for my liking.

Will be great than to create such feature if not planned for next release, to be able to setup controls by sizes. Note, I still need to buy this app.

Drone Control doesn't perform as good as the free flight app, this is true. You can getter performance by disabling certain on screen features. But i just submitted version 1.4.5 which some new features and a lot optimization.

It should hit the app store in about a week. The full release notes:

* Added ability to freely adjust the hud opacity in the inflight settings.
* Added ability to change the hud color theme from within the inflight settings.
* Added a new HUD theme: snow white.
* Firmware downloader now shows the filesize and informations about the release.
* Increased the area you can touch to control on the iPad.
* Improved battery level view. Batteryicon turns red at 30%.
* Added misc settings where you can change things like the firmware download URL.
* Fixed connection and firmware upgrade issues in case of the "checkplf bug".
* Performance tweaks, faster startup.
