Drone Control HD 2.5.1 is finally available.

*Added support for the 60Beat game pad controller. You have to activate it in the misc settings.
*To meet the iOS data storage requirements, downloaded firmware versions can no longer be backuped to iCloud.
*Removed unnecessary precision for tilt and speed settings. (no decimal places, this was absurd)

Version 2.5.5 just hit the app store!

Added the ability option for "smooth stabilization". Once activated you will receive very smooth stopping when releasing the controls. This is great for filming but the AR.Drone will not hold the position as good as before.

When using the 60Beat GamePad controller, the SELECT button is no longer an emergency cut off. You can now switch from smooth stabilization to normal position hold with this button. Great for shooting amazing videos!

Further 60Beat GamePad changes: use L2 to switch between cameras and R2 to zap through the LED animation.

USB recording time and current speed more readable on the iPhone.

Added the ability to share your navigation data file via email.

V2.5.5 downloaded and installed on my iPad 2!

I can't actually say how it performs yet, as my AR Drone 2 won't be delivered until tomorrow - Amazon, order in the next 10 minutes and your order will arrive before 1.00 pm tomorrow :-)

I've been deliberating over the AR Drone for a very long time now, since the early days of V1. I've been flying electric RC fixed wing and (very simple) rotary wing for a number of years, but the whole quad copter thing is quite new to me. I recently bought a Hubsan X4 which is great fun, at least when I can tell which way it's pointing!

I've flown various FlycanOne cameras on my RC fixed wing aircraft, but 'pointing' is a bit tricky and you have to get a lot of footage to capture a few seconds of what you are interested in. I'm hoping that the AR Drone will be easier to point, especially with the 'POV' video feed.

Really looking forward to joining the AR community and having some great fun.

One minor issue with V2.5.5 that might go away once it's actually connected to the AR Drone, the display doesn't rotate with the iPad, so it's the right way up with the iPad button on the right, but inverted with the button on the left.

Any ideas when they will bring back the autonomous object tracking feature?

Tommy,

I've had a chance to fly now using the 60Beat controller with Drone Control HD (and also Drone Control on an iPhone 4). It works well, but the controls, especially in pitch (forward and backwards) seem very sensitive. When I want to go forward it seems like you get the maximum pitch all in one go so it's very difficult to fly forwards and backwards smoothly.

In fact thinking about this, I was using my iPhone 4 and not the iPad when I mostly noticed this, so I need to do more testing with the iPad and HD. I wonder if the control input algorithms are the same on the iPhone and iPad for the 60Beat.

Then tested using FreeFlightWorld (obviously without the 60Beat) and it was very easy to gradually move forwards and backwards - just a little bit of input produced a gradual acceleration that was impossible with Drone Control. With Drone Control I ease the 60Beat pitch control forward, the drone tilts forwards sharply, I ease back on the stick and the drone stops dead and so pitches up etc.

I've got the sensitivities set fairly low - see attached image.

I obviously need to do a bit more testing here, but I wonder if you have any ideas?

The only thing that seemed to help me was to slow down the rotation to its slowest setting and get used to the controller, it takes a bit to get used to the inputs vs outputs for sure. Play with the settings turning everything down to its slowest setting except for tilt, maybe move it to 8 or 9 and try it, it's definitely more sensitive than the regular controls. Good luck and practice, practice, practice.

In Drone Control 2.6 I will submit it this week, took a little longer than expected.

That is the bad thing about the 60 beat ,when u give it a little input it is full power or nothing so you have to turn down the traval adj to make up for this but out in the wind that makes it hard to fly

No, the stick input is really proportional, you have to push it more sensitive if you think it is not. This confuses a lot of users but the game pad sends full signal way before the stick is pushed to the end.

If you still having problems please try to hold the stick between your thumb and index finger instead of only your thumb.

This is not comparable to the virtual sticks on the app itself (which are also proportional).

Thanks guys, more stick time required I think - I just wish that wind would die down!
