AR.Drone 2.0 - What looks new and/or improved.

Thanks for this summary! I go in the sane direction. Maybe the motor specs are a litte bit different. But cross, blades and gears are looking similar. The charger will definitely change (you can see on Parrots page under specifications). Will be a fast charger without cables. And I am surprised that there is still only a 1000mAh Lipo on board.

i will admit it does look really neat. but i am still happy with my original drone. will be neat to see the two go head to head with each other to see which one out preforms the other in what ways.

Wow thanks Szuu, this shows the AR.Drone 2.0 as having WiFi B,G & N and USB 2 for extensions.

I wonder what Extensions they(Parrot) are thinking of?

@symon: RC mod. But not from Parrot I think.

I already have two RC mod's, one I purchased and one I made up myself from my spares. I was going to be installing both in my two current drones, but I think I'll wait for this beast to hit the shelves first.

Anybody taking bets on whether one of the extensions is a USB thumb drive for recording the HD video (ie. the live feed isn't recorded in HD on the remote device)?

I don't believe we've gone from "QVGA only even though it's a VGA camera" to "we can suddenly stream 720p live". My money is that the streamed feed is lower quality (vga maybe) and they'll offer a recording device.

Interesting that they've moved the USB port from the bottom. They seem to be aiming for the ability to fly in light rain, as per this pic:

Wonder if the existing Macgyver mod will port over easily or not...

this sounds logical, but they clearly said that the hd video is transferred over wifi/n.
but even if they won't offer such add-on, it should be possible to implement our own solution (now that we have 1GHz CPU and USB 2.0)

btw. have you noticed the ultrasound board is very small in 2.0? and it looks like there are still at least 2 other circuit boards, placed side by side (assuming the drawing depicts the actual structure). at the first sight i was afraid they combined the mainboard with sensors, which would double the repair cost in case of failure...

btw#2. good news for everyone who has already purchased a set of spare batteries :D
 "AR.DRONE 2.0 works with first generation AR.DRONE batteries"

But: the charger/balancer is changing. It will be a fast charger without cables (new Lipo has contacts). So keep the old balancer;-)

Yeah, I missed that. (The CES show keeps me *very* busy, so I've only had a few minutes to glance at this...)

How can you say you can use the old batteries?, the picture shows it's using 12 volts, not 11.1 volts, so clearly at this stage not the same battery.
